Today I bring you three such examples, have a look-see…

1. Growmotely

This organization offers opportunities to employers and candidates. It is essentially a recruitment agency, just not for the “normal” brick and mortar type jobs.

Growmotely offers a service where companies can advertise for candidates on the platform – and the job offers are long-term and remote – in other words, you get to work from where you choose. How cool!

  4. Start your remote work
  5. Get paid monthly

Are you keen to sign up? Click on the image below. I am not an affiliate for Growmotely so there is no benefit to me if you do sign up. The reason I am sharing this with you is to help you find legitimate opportunities. How to make money online for free and no scam

2. TranscribeMe

I started out writing about two other online transcription offers (which I will still write about). With the research I did, it soon became clear that TranscribeMe offers a more legit opportunity than the other two.

According to Indeed.com, TranscribeMe has some excellent reviews:

As you can see from the screenshot taken, they received a 3.7 rating

As you can see from the screenshot, TranscribeMe received a 3.7 rating overall. That is 25 x 5 Star, 14 x 4 Star, and 11 x 3 Star as opposed to `12 x 2 and 1 Stars.

They could do better I am sure. let’s see where they lost points. Looking at the different reviews (yes, I actually read through them), it is apparent that the biggest concern is low pay and insufficient work available.

The upside of that is that transcribers benefit from more time with their families and other interests (which is fabulous if you are building your own online business!). Have a look, Work/Life Balance scores the highest at 4.1.

There is also the odd really negative review from previous employees (these were given in 2019).

One of the 1 Star reviewers gave a terrible review because of mistakes they made themselves. The system flagged this person because he or she initially logged in as a client and then logged in as a transcriber. Whilst that is really frustrating to deal with, there is another perspective to take into account – as a transcriber or a client at TranscribeMe, you know that the system is set up to protect you from scam artists and spammers.

Two of the reviews are from current employees of TranscribeMe and they speak about the great culture of the company and have this to say “Excellent for self-starters” and “Hard work, fun work community but low pay.”

4 Star Employee Review – dated 22 June 2021

The company has a great culture and respects its employees. There are opportunities for advancement or you can just stick with a comfortable team and work when you want. Pay could be better but it’s really an easy job to get into.

3 Star Employee Review – dated 17 April 2021

Great community, but very poor pay. You can improve your pay by passing more exams, and advancing up the ladder. Not advisable if you’re looking for quick cash, but it could serve as extra side income.

Below is a quick snapshot taken from Indeed.com. For someone who is looking for an opportunity to make money online, these advantages outweigh the disadvantages in my book, especially if you are new to transcribing.

TrustPilot also contains some reviews on TranscribeMe but, to be fair, the majority (by far) are extremely old, so I am not including them in this article. You are welcome to see for yourself, however.

What You Will Need To Become A Transcriber with TranscribeMe

The following are the prerequisites as set out by TranscribeMe:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have access to a computer or laptop and a stable internet connection
  • Have access to a valid PayPal account
  • Pass their entrance exam

What I Like About TranscribeMe

  • TranscribeMe sets itself apart from the other transcription opportunities available online. Prior to signing up with this company, they provide access to a very comprehensive FAQ section, so you know exactly what you are getting into in advance.

  • This company is very professional in the sign-up process
  • The age category is from 18 with no maximum age in place
  • Once you have signed up you will receive an email that directs you to confirm your email and to their welcome WorkHub.
  • The entrance exams are presented on the welcome page
  • As you improve in the work and complete higher levels you gain access to further opportunities and higher rates of pay.

How to make money online for free and no scam

  • The exams are detailed and TranscribeMe provides you with access to pdfs which cover the English Entrance Exam guidelines and Special Styles English Guidelines (the US Only) which really assist you in preparing for the exam.
  • Should you fail an exam, you have access to two retries. If you fail both, there is a 30-day waiting period to access two more attempts.

What I Do Not Like About TranscribeMe

  • There is only one thing I do not like and that is, I would have to take the exams (they recommend you set aside 3 hours!) in order to give you more information

On a serious note, that seems fair enough. Please forgive me for not completing the exams at this stage. I would rather get this article published for your benefit.

3. Work for Impact

The times that we are currently living in, and you are welcome to correct me if I am wrong, seem to have created a higher awareness of just how much need there is in the world.

That is what brought me around to writing about Work for Impact. This organization’s mission is:

“Work for Impact strives to build a better world, one project at a time. We believe by connecting talented freelancers with the right organizations we can truly make a difference and create a world we can all be proud of.”

Work for Impact is on a mission to create “Positive Impact”, this is what they have to say

“We believe in setting goals that benefit everyone, not just ourselves. By working with socially and environmentally responsible organizations and nonprofits, we want to promote projects that have a positive impact on the world as a whole. We only succeed when everyone succeeds.”

Wouldn’t it be awesome to know that you are making a difference in the world and at the same time alleviate your own financial pressures?

Work for Impact offer exactly that opportunity by matching up skilled freelancers with socially and environmentally responsibilities and/or nonprofits so that together, projects can be brought to life and create an impact on the world around us.

More than that, Work for Impact also provide what they call “custom workspace which allows companies and freelancers to collaborate with ease. What does this mean? It means that they provide an environment that facilitates the following:

  • File Sharing (employers and freelancers can upload and share necessary files for work to commence)
  • Track Job Progress ()updates and progress of the projects can be shared within the workspace)
  • Feedback (reviews of completed work, notes, and instructions for revisions can be shared)

How Work for Impact Works for Freelancers

As a freelancer, you would log into the Work for Impact site (workforimpact.com) and complete the following steps:

  1. Create Your Profile
    1. Describe your background, including your work history, education, and any other relevant information
    2. Take Work for Impact’s verification tests
    3. Upload your portfolio

2. Apply for Jobs

You are able to filter the advertised jobs (according to your skills, experience, and what you are looking to earn); find jobs that you can get passionate about, i.e. in the causes that mean something to you specifically; and submit proposals to the employer companies.

3. Get Hired

The Work for Impact portal also (1) notifies you of potential jobs (and notifications when clients wish to speak further with you); (2) offers interview facilities in the way of built-in chat and video call facilities and (3) allows for job offers to be sent to you which you then either accept or decline.

4. Start Working

As mentioned above, Work for Impact provides a custom workspace and that will enable you to collaborate with the employer company, share files, give updates, and receive feedback on tasks performed.

5. Get Paid

You get to choose the method of payment preferred by you (Stripe or Payoneer). the Work for Impact system also offers payment protection services which help ensure you get paid for all the projects completed successfully.

Added to that, you have access to invoices and payment history.

Interested? You can sign up with Work for Impact here.

As with the other two opportunities presented here, I am not an affiliate for Work for Impact and will not benefit in any way should you decide to sign up with them as a freelancer (or client for that matter).

Something important to be mindful of when negotiating fees with employer companies is that Work for Impact, whilst it is free to sign up as a freelancer, Work for Impact does charge 10% of the freelancer fees. So, best you work that 10% into the negotiations.

That way, you will earn what you are looking for after the Work for Impact 10% commission is deducted.

There is also a threshold after which Work for Impact deducts 5%. It’s not clear exactly where that threshold is though. Rather be safe and add on the 10% to ensure you earn what you are worth, please.

Have a look below for a screenshot of the Fee Structure:

Work for Impact Free Package

I have written this article with work online for free options in mind, Work for Impact offers a Free Package and some paid for options. Below is a screenshot of the Free Package:

Make money online for free and no scam

In the interests of total transparency, here is a screenshot of the paid-for option available to Freelancers:

I was in recruitment for 12 years in South Africa and we were not permitted to charge candidates for the services we offered. Perhaps it is different in the remote and freelance working environment.

What I Like About Work for Impact

Any organization that makes a legitimate and positive difference in the world is close to my heart. I have a very soft heart and seeing companies make a difference really lights me up. For that reason alone, I already am partial to Work for Impact.

The fact that Work for Impact offers opportunities for like-minded and like-hearted companies and individuals to work together just lights me up even further.

One of the biggest joys I received when in the recruitment industry was seeing people sign up for a job (permanent or freelance) that they were excited about and, enabled them to generate an income.

What I Dislike About Work for Impact

My only concern is the 10% (and then 5%) charged to the freelancers. I may need to do some more research on this, perhaps it is the norm, especially in the non-profit arena.

That’s All Folks!

Well, that’s all, folks. Three ways showing you how to make money online for free (and no scams). I would love to know if you sign up for any of the above and what your experience turns out to be. Do share!

Before I love and leave you, perhaps you would like to learn how to create your own successful online business whilst making money online for free with one of the options presented here?  If that is you, I invite you to sign up for a free starter membership at my Number 1 Recommendation.

  1. Hi Louise! Great article on how to make money online. I’ve been searching for a program that can help me get started. This looks like a great option. How long would it take to earn money?

    • Hi Alyse
With the options shared in this post you could start earning money quickly so long as you have the skills required. As mentioned in the article, TranscribeMe requires that a 3 hours exam is completed, that’s the minimum with them.
Thanks for popping over for a visit and for leaving me a question.

  2. Hi Louise
I loved reading “How To Make Money Online For Free (And No Scam)”. I have never heard of Growmotely, Transcribe Me or Work for Impact. I can’t get over how to Transcribe Me expects people to sit the 3-hour exam! Wow. They seem to be very picky or expect highly educated persons in English. I’ve failed already! Thank you for sharing an insight to these online organisations.

Haha! You made me laugh with the 3-hour exam comment. I am considering making the time to do the exam, just because, but 3 hours is a stretch to be honest.
Glad you appreciated the suggestions, thanks for taking the time to say so.

  3. Hi Louise.

    Thanks for the information.
I agree that times are difficult for many people now, and in the short term, I don’t think they are going to improve much.
That’s why I, like many other people, am looking for new ways of making an extra buck.

Out of the options you reviewed here, I think ‘work for impact ‘ is the one that suits me the best. Like you, I believe the world will be a better place when we can all work together to make a positive difference. I’m going to go and see what they can do for me, and what I can do for them in return.
    Cheers.

    • Ah, a man after my own heart – thank you so much, Andrew. I would love to hear how it goes for you with Work for Impact, I think it’s a fabulous initiative!
When it comes to things getting better, I believe they will improve again, just not in the way we may expect. Life, as we knew it before all the lockdowns, is probably gone forever, which is why it’s so important to become educated in the online business world. This is definitely the way of the future.
      Blessings to you

  4. Hi Louise,
I was intrigued by your article title. Many people are struggling and to work online for extra money can help many. I know of the big ones like Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancer and others but I hadn’t heard of Work For Impact, GrowMotely or Transcribe Me.
The 3 hour entrance exam for Transcribe Me is pretty full on. Can you give some examples of the types of transcribing work that you could do on this platform e.g. types of content to transcribe, industries etc.
I have heard of Rev but not this one. Thanks in advance, John

So glad to see that I brought something new to you.
TranscribeMe offer the opportunity to work in specialized industries such as legal and medical in addition to what they describe as “general transcription”. There are also accent specific opportunities, you can have a look at them here: TranscribeMe Special Opportunities
I hadn’t heard of Rev before now, I am heading over there to have a look at that too, thanks for sharing.

PS As you say, the 3 hours exam is “full on”, lol! I am tempted to take the exam, maybe one day when time allows.

  5. Hi Louise – These are some awesome suggestions! I had heard of TranscribeMe before and even looked into doing some work with them, but the other 2 were completely new to me. I think any of these 3 are great, valuable options for those folks who are looking to supplement and/or even replace their source of income. Over the past year and a half I think a greater importance has been placed on work flexibility and the number of people optioning to work from home/remotely is only going to increase. Thank you for providing some knowledge and expertise to this area, this was really educational!

We are so fortunate to live in the era we do, imagine back in the days of the Spanish Flu when people did not have access to the online options we have!
There are so many awesome online opportunities available to us, I love exploring and sharing them as I go.
      Blessings always
