Unroll.me is a service which assists you in cleaning up your inbox. Unroll.me was founded by two 24 year old years in 2014. An general overview of what the product is. They decided to develop this product as a to manage the challenges they were experiencing in their inboxes. An overload of emails and difficulty in seeing important emails as they arrived, and finding them after the fact. This product assists the user with cleaning up their inbox and offers a list of all your subscription emails, which is easy to see. In addition, one can easily unsubscribe from whatever they don’t want.

Anyone who has a presence online and receives a large amount of email (that’s pretty much anyone with an email address) will benefit from Unroll.me.

Unroll.me is easy to use. It is literally a case of visiting the website, sign up, add an email address for clean up and the Unroll.me app does the rest. Give it a try here and now if you fancy:
- Go to the Unroll.me site
- Click on Get Started now. sign in with the email address you are looking to clean up
- Click on Agree – this allows Unroll.me access to your emails and data
- Give the program permission to run in your Inbox
- Click on Keep in Inbox, Unsubscribe or Add To Rollup from the results page which follows
- When you are done, click on Finish
What follows is a results page which gives you a rundown on how many emails the app has tidied up on your behalf. There is a great facility where you can set up a reminder within Unroll.me to remind you to run the service on a schedule. It’s a free feature, so probably worth running.

A very handy feature here is that you can manage all your emails on your phone. All you do is download on the App Store or via Android App on Google play. You can click through here and take a look.

This App is Free. They generate an income by selling the data – as I mentioned earlier, this is something they are transparent about from the get-go. Here is a screen shot of the website showing exactly that:
Unroll.me found themselves in some hot water with the press because they glean marketing data from their client’s Inboxes. This is not something they have tried to hide, and as you will see below, they are quite transparent about how they use the data. Bear in mind that the data is anonymous, they are very clear about how this is done in their terms and conditions too.
Additionally, data being harvested in pretty common practice. The likes of Gmail and Hotmail are in the same field. So long as all of your personal information is removed, there really is not problem with this. Not only that, the information is collated with the millions of other users’ information. They then sell that onto companies to use in their marketing research. There really is not risk, certainly no more than if you were a Gmail or Hotmail user.
You will notice from the screenshot above, they are very clear by stating “We are not interested in your personal emails. Our algorithms and processes are designed to focus on commercial and transactional emails.”

It’s a really valuable service. To the marketers and to us as consumers – I want the relevant products to be promoted to me, don’t you?

I love that Unroll.me go the extra step to inform their users about who they are sharing the information with. Of course this is market intelligence that they are gathering so they sell it to companies who are conducting research about their own businesses, their markets, or for competition analysis too. It is very handy to companies for them to learn about market trends etc. Here is an idea of who they are dealing with – some great Fortune 500 or Blue Chip companies. As I said, I appreciate that these companies who manufacture and market household brand, take the time to get to know who their target market is.

As mentioned a little earlier, they did land in hot water with the media for selling data, their website is very details about what they do with the data and, they state their transparency too. They reassure us that they are responsible with the data and have a dedicated Chief Privacy Offer, and an internal task force – their “primary focus is improving and communicating their privacy practices”.

Both Jojo Heydaya and Josh Rosenwald grew up in New York but it wasn’t until they were introduced to each other in Israel, that the friendship and the resulting entrepreneurial journey began. They experienced the same frustration you and I do with the overwhelm of emails land in their inboxes. Unroll.me was the resulting solution to the challenge. Quite incredibly, these two chaps have followed remarkably similar paths in their lives; both born on the same day (30 December 1989), they also were both schooled at Private Jewish Schools in New York prior to going to college, and neither of them completed their College Education. My Final Opinion of Unroll.me
I am a fan to be quite frank – you can probably tell from the write up already. Why? You may ask. I appreciate a story of success, particularly one born from challenges that people face. Unroll.me was created to solve problems – it was created by people for people. That is something I will treasure about any product or service. That comes from a genuine place. Additionally, I appreciate that they are very transparent about what they do with the data they gather from their users – the fact that they gather the data and then what they do with it. In my opinion, it’s pretty ingenious – the have provided a service which is reliable, easy to use and efficient, plus they are able to make it sustainable by providing information to research houses, Fortune 500 Companies, and Blue Chip Organizations. Seems like a win/win to me.

Just as you have mentioned throughout the article Unroll Me makes money selling data anonymously to others. If you are like me and like to do research on trends on how people interact online and what they like or dislike it’s a necessary tool for affiliate marketers. I also personally use Unroll Me because of the ease of use it gives to get rid of incoming marketing material people may have inadvertently signed up for, and let’s face it that happens all the time to people for not reading the fine print in something. Hi Louise, you did great writing this review on Unroll me. It is so annoying having to deal with all sorts of marketing and campaign emails. Oftentimes, they make one lose out on important emails. In fact I had to abandon one of my gmail account as a result of campaign emails from one sales funnel I registered on out of ignorance. To subscribe from their mail list, they demanded I log on to their site and unsubscribe from their, sadly I couldn’t remember the password I used and they refused to give me option for update of password, since then I stopped using that email account. So I can relate well with unsolicited emails.Nice to see that they came up with this as a result of same challenges of having to deal with numerous marketing emails. The pros outweighs the cons, and as a matter of fact, they didn’t hide the fact that they make use of some data from their customers for market research. So I think it is safe to use it. May be I should try using their app.Thanks for this.

Yes, I think we have all had the overload issue to deal with, quite frustrating – and as you say, we could end up missing out on important emails!
Thankfully there are laws that protect us from spam mail nowadays, you should report that crowd that made it impossible for you to unsubscribe, that is just unacceptable!

Unroll me does look like an amazing program. I get lots of emails that flood my inbox on a daily basis. It would be good to get this to remove the junk from my inbox. The fact that these guys were able to come up with this solution is pretty amazing.
I am also a big fan of young entrepreneurs. Those willing to take the risk and build something to solve a problem. Such persons have to be applauded and their works recognized.

This is actually a very cool product. When I read the product overview, I got a little excited because I do have at least 3 different email accounts I need to sort out and get rid of junk emails. It got so overwhelming that I had to create a new email account that I am now careful in sharing because I don’t want to go through the junk mess again. I like the product for what it does, I am still skeptical about how they share or sell information to marketing companies. But thanks for sharing, this is good to know.

Unroll.me is a very useful product for sure. Like you, I have more than one email account and managing the inbox can be daunting at times. I see that you are still skeptical, why not email the Chief Information Officer, her details are on this article and also on their website. Let her put your mind at ease. The fact that her details are published online like that makes me feel even more comfortable with what they are doing. Bear in mind also, if you have a Gmail or Hotmail and probably yahoo mail, the likelihood is that some of your information is being sold by them. Also, remember that it is anonymous, so it’s not your personal information but rather market-related information. like I said though, rather contact them directly and get it “from the horse’s mouth”. As a member here, and other marketing platform, I always find myself recieving loads of email in regular intervals, sometimes it gets overwhelming because I have to go direct to the inbox to delete them one by one thus consuming alot of my time, as from now having gone through you post, I believe I already have a solution to my junk email and how to handle them just allowing it to do the work for me absolutely free, I believe that any marketer is in need of this services. Hey i really enjoyed this article, it was very informative! I always get tons of emails especially spam, i dont really send emails myself unless i have too. This program does sound very useful and i wonder if it would get rid of all my spam emails for me? I may need to look into this and check it out.

I am hearing about a data collection company which provides a service to the client and then selling the collected data for market research purpose, Very Intelligent. The free service they provide like organizing their client’s emails is great. But I have still reservations about a third party entering into our private Inbox. For example, Indian ID (Aadhar Card) is provided by the government is still not safe, where our all personal details are stored. Our fingerprints, bank details, personal mob no, address and everything can be accessed through this ID. Although they have mentioned their Transparency, still I do not understand how far we can trust them. Otherwise organizing the inbox is a good job though.

Interesting observation you have shared. I am inclined to trust Unroll Me, they have too much to lose if they compromise the source of their information. Having said that, I too have reservations about other places where our information is stored, as you mention, the Indian ID (Aadhar Card). The SA banks now store biometrics and one tried to obtain my agreement to storing my voice for voice recognition, the way it was managed made me very uncomfortable so I became quite vocal about that, knowing the call was recorded.
Like you say, organizing the inbox is important and with Unroll Me being such a handy tool, it is well worth consdiering.

Thank you for your thorough and honest review of the Unroll Me app. I think it sounds like a handy tool, but what I usually do is just go to the bottom of whatever emails are bugging me and hit the unsubscribe button. I suppose if someone let their inbox go and had a ton of them, this could come in handy, but I am a rather private person with my information, and especially my email account, so I think I would not be wanting to have this company going through my emails and “gleaning” information, as you say.
