Has the travel bug bitten? Are you itching to travel the world and want to work as you do it? Would it surprise you if I told you that there are incredible opportunities to do just that?
Opportunities for free accommodation whilst you learn about and enjoy other parts of the world? Yes, indeed there are, as I promised in the Late Bloomer Travel Supermarket, I will be writing about the different opportunities available to fulfill your wanderlust and show you exactly How to Work and Travel the World!
How to Work and Travel – Edition 1 – by Late Bloomer
Let’s have a look at some of the destinations available with this incredible way to work and travel the world:
- How about Tasmania Australia;
- London United Kingdom;
- Nelson, New Zealand; or
- Oakland, California, USA?
These are just a few of the destinations you could be traveling to! Just imagine the delicious food, the gorgeous scenery, the lifestyle, the EXPERIENCE!!!!
What is the catch?
Of course, there is a catch, there always is – this is a great catch though, one you will love!
You need to have loads of love in your heart for Buster the Moggy in London, or farm animals and cats in New Zealand (yes, it is a farm!), or two loving and lovable dogs in California! Yes, you get to love and live with the beautiful furbabies who are permanent residents of your accommodation. When it comes to the cats, prepare yourself to serve them. Dogs on the otherhand, will just want to love and serve you.
So, the second catch is this – you get to lose your heart to a gorgeous little furry – and have to leave at the end of the contract! Sorry to say, this is a reality in this industry and lifestyle.
How adorable are they?
Fancy spending time on a farm in New Zealand?
Can you picture yourself taking these two softies for a walk and a picnic?
It’s a labour of love!
That kind of working trip is a dream come true for me! I cannot think of anything I would rather do than spend time loving and caring for beautiful furbabies, great and small! The experience you gain from living in the homes and worlds of your clients cannot be beaten! There is no better way to experience the lifestyle of someone in another part of the world than to step into their daily lives, live in their homes, take care of their beloved furbabies. Total immersion into the life of a London City Slicker or New Zealander farmer – these are just two examples – you can be considered for posts in Asia think Thailand, oh yes! Or Europe – “the rain in Spain”, the Swiss Alps; Rome, Italy. Australia – the Outback or Sydney or Melbourne!
How, just how do you get to enjoy these opportunities? It’s not nearly as difficult as you may expect, in fact it is really, really easy!
Have a look at the opportunity by clicking on the image below, there is so much to see on the TrustedHousesitters website, they leave NOTHING to chance!
Who Are TrustedHousesitters?
We are talking about a top-notch, professional organization here. Internationally connected Sitters and Owners (Sitters being travelers looking to house and pet sit and Owners being the house and pet owners looking for pet and house sitters.) TrustedHousesitters started in 2010, and they have a simple mission: “to keep pets happy and safe in their own homes.” They have grown rapidly into the global community of pet lovers who assist each other with travel, knowing that beloved homes and furbabies are well taken care of.
When you visit the website you will also see blogs and testimonies from sitters and owners alike – clearly showing how the relationships develop between people from all over the world. What an incredible opportunity to meet and build friendships with folk from the other side of the world.

“Can I go house and pet sitting in other countries?
Yes! Through TrustedHousesitters, you can apply for house and pet sitting opportunities all over the world.
However, it’s really important to remember that it is your responsibility to organise your own travel arrangements, including ensuring you are legally able to enter a country and checking what type of visa you might need.
Please ensure you are fully informed before applying for and travelling to any house and pet sits.”
“Can I get paid to house and pet sit?”
Our vision at TrustedHousesitters is that the house and pet sitters sit for free, in exchange for worldwide accommodation, a home away from home, in places they would not normally get the chance to experience, so no money changes hands.
In line with this ethos, all the member sitter profiles online, show a ‘Sits for free’ banner, letting the owners know that this is what our entire community is based on.”
While there are no specific qualifications needed to become a sitter, there are many different kinds of experiences and qualities that can make you a great sitter.
Owners are looking for someone who will lovingly care for their home and pets as if they were their own. So, if you have had pets of your own or have looked after someone else’s pets, that’s a perfect place to start. Experience of owning or renting a home and maintaining a garden will also help give owners the reassurance that you will keep things running smoothly.
When you are first starting out with TrustedHousesitters, you can also use our verification features to give owners added peace of mind. This includes getting a reference from someone who knows you and has seen you hold a position of responsibility – such as a colleague, landlord or family member. You can also get a full criminal background check.
Even if you haven’t had any direct experience of house and pet sitting, thinking about how you can show an owner that you’re a caring and considerate pet lover will soon get you on the road to success!”

Louisa, what a wonderful way to explore new places you would not otherwise have the chance to do. Especially looking after pets that their families love and care so much about.
I know how it feels you do not want to leave another family member behind even if it is a furball(O: they are members of your family.
It is getting so hard to travel with them these days. To have peace of mind in leaving them behind is so wonderful I have been enlightened with this article. I have heard of international home sitters know I can add pet sitters to my list there is definitely is a better way.
Thank you Linda – agreed, my hearts really sinks at the thought of leaving my little Ginger Ninja, he is such a softy and as cute as a button!
Yes, this message does reasonate with a better way 🙂
Appreciate your visit and comment – thank you.
Blessings to you
Louise
Awesome idea! I love it and will investigate further! I already clicked the banner and looked around. It all seems fantastic for a mobile lifestyle!
I have always been a dog person. My first job while in grammar school was cleaning the runs at the neighbors commercial kennel. We bred, raised and trained Brittany Spaniels along with boarding. It was an awesome place. My love of the canine babies has been lifelong!
I have a 10 year old service dog, 45 pounds shepherd lab mix. Do the owners ever accept other animals with you?
Ahoy there Captain Dennis! Fabulous to see you here.
Wonderful to hear that you like the idea, it truly is a great way to experience the world and live as the locals do! Being an animal lover, this fits right in with your lifestyle.
I don’t know if the owners would accept other animals with you, left to me, I would definitely agree to it – provided all the furries are friendly ones of course 🙂 Another option to consider would be to do an exchange of sorts, so you housesit the home of someone else and they do the same for you in return. I am sure Trustedhousesitters could set that up for you too.
Thank you for stopping by, really appreciated.
Blessings
Louise
Hi Louise, I’m so glad I stumbled across this article. I love travelling and it’s really interesting that there’s a possibility to save on accommodation with house sitting.
This sounds like a really great way to do the 2 things I enjoy, travelling and saving money 🙂
Thanks for sharing!
Hi Stephanie
I so appreciate that you popped in to read the article. Trustedhousesitters certainly do a fabulous job of ensuring that the sitters and the “sittees” are safe, so important for all of us.
Agreed, it is a wonderful way to travel and save money – plus get to live the local lifestyle of wherever you are, this is not something we are easily exposed to as tourists.
Remember to come back and let me know your experiences once you have done a travel and house sit job.
Blessings to you.
Louise
