How to Advertise on Google

How to Advertise on Google

It is no secret, the world of shopping – and indeed of business – has changed! Learning How to Advertise on Google is no longer a nice-to-have, but a necessity!

Being the most popular method of online searching, Google Ads has completely revolutionized the way advertisers sell and market their products. It’s important for you to know how to advertise on Google.

What is Google Ads?

Google Ads was formerly known as Google AdWords and they provide a platform for advertisers to connect their products and services with consumers, based on what the consumers are searching for online.

So, what exactly is Google Ads and why would you consider making use of this offering?

Google Ads was formerly known as Google AdWords, they have created the largest online marketplace for businesses to market and sell their products and services – direct to customers.

According to Wikipedia, “Google Ads is an online advertising platform developed by Google, where advertisers pay to display brief advertisements, service offerings, product listings, video content and generate mobile application installs within the Google ad network to web users. Wikipedia

Initial release: October 23, 2000; 17 years ago”

Not only is it a platform to advertise, they also cleverly add the services of Keyword Planner and AdWords Editor – more about those in my next blog.

So, how to Advertise on Google is a question easily answered. Google makes it as simple as pie, you just set up a free account with them online – we will get into that a little later, perhaps it’s more pertinent that we answer the question of why first …

Why advertise on Google?

Let’s address why first, though it may be stating the obvious for many. Where do you go to find anything, and I mean literally anything? You look for a new school in a new area – Google. You’re looking for the latest promotion on those Nikes you’ve been yearning after – just Google it. Perhaps you are looking for holiday accommodation – Google. then the everyday stuff – how to treat heartburn; what speed does a cheetah run at; how do humpback whales breed – Google, Google and Google some more.

Hopefully, that’s settled it then – Google is a force to be reckoned with, and why wouldn’t you take advantage of that as a business owner?

Google, arguably the world’s biggest online marketplace

Having answered the question of where the average man on the street goes to ask a question, we can acknowledge that the converse is also true – where should advertisers go to place their products and services within easy reach of their customers – Google Ads, but of course!

Setting up your Google Ads account

Set up is an absolute cinch. Google Ads have truly simplified the way you set up your account, they do the necessary security checks, one with a code via your email address and a second check with another code via your mobile number. Great to know that they take our security seriously. You then agree to T&C’s, there are a couple of options along the way and “Bob’s your auntie”! I love that they take so much care with your security, and even reassure you in the process that your information remains private. This is the address you go to, https://ads.google.com or, just Google “Google ads”, fancy that! lol!

Google Ads pricing – will you need a huge budget?

Their pricing model is extremely clever and works for any size and station of business. Literally, from tiny start-ups to massive, well-established conglomerates

In their words You only pay for results. No visit, no fee.

Signing up for Google Ads is free. You only pay when someone clicks your ad to visit your website or calls you. In other words, when your advertising is working.”

They go on to say:

Start with any budget.

You set your own budget, so your costs will depend on what you are trying to accomplish with your advertising. Some businesses spend tens of thousands of pounds a month, and others are comfortable investing several hundred.”

They go onto say that you can start or stop whenever you like, they offer Flexible pricing, Real-time results, and Three ways to pay. They offer assistance with setting budgets and have contact information available on their website.

I am sure you can see why I describe the pricing model as extremely clever!

Benefits of using Google Ads

According to Google Ads themselves, the benefits of using them are :

  • Attract more customers
  • Reach the right people at the right time (sounds much like they are reciting part of the four Ps of marketing)
  • Advertise locally or globally

As mentioned a little earlier, GoogleAds offer additional tools such as Manager Accounts, Keyword Planner and AdWords Editor – let’s chat about those in my next blog. I think this blog contains enough information to get you excited and interested!
